Backstage News On The Unprotected Chair Shot In AEW Blood & Guts Match

The days of wrestlers taking chair shots to the head, whether it’s protected or not, is a rare thing to see now as we’ve learned of the damage done to the brain that causes injuries such as CTE.

AEW held the Blood & Guts Match for the fourth straight year when Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, and The Acclaimed) faced off with The Elite (The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, and Hangman Page) on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

During it, Perry was handcuffed to the cage and took an unprotected chair shot to the head from Briscoe. The faces went over in the bout. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted they used a gimmick chair.

Alvarez said, “Well, I can tell you this: it was one of the shaved-down chairs. I don’t know how shaved down that is, I don’t know how soft that is, but it was a gimmicked chair. But still, they waffled that dude with that chair.”
