Brodie Lee Jr. Vows To Retire Cody Rhodes And Discusses Future Plans
Brodie Lee Jr., the son of the late Jon Huber (Brodie Lee/Luke Harper), has declared his intention to be the wrestler who eventually retires current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. In a candid interview on the Casual Conversations with The Classic podcast, the youngster, known to AEW fans as “Negative One,” mapped out his long-term goals in the wrestling business, with a showdown against “The American Nightmare” at the top of his list.
Speaking to host Justin Dhillon, Brodie Lee Jr. expressed confidence that he will be the one to end Rhodes’ storied career when the time comes.
“There’s something that I will, something will happen where Cody will retire and I will be it,” Lee Jr. said. “I will do my best to retire Cody Rhodes, that’s all I’m gonna say. When I think of myself during that run with Cody, I think of myself as Anakin Skywalker.”
“Uncle” Cody And The Godfather Role
The relationship between the Huber and Rhodes families remains deeply personal. Brodie Lee Jr. revealed that he refers to Rhodes as “Unc” and shared a touching story about being asked to be the godfather to Rhodes’ new baby.
“He’s like, ‘We thought about a lot of people… would you like to be the godfather?'” Lee Jr. recalled. “And I started running because I was like this like crazy… you helped me through all the stuff with my dad and now I’m the godfather of your new baby.”
Contract Status And Moxley Death Match
Contrary to popular belief, Lee Jr. clarified that he is not currently under an official wrestler’s contract with AEW. Instead, he has an agreement in place that gives him the option to sign when he turns 18. However, he did reveal one bizarre contractual nugget regarding Jon Moxley.
“Everybody thinks I’m signed. I’m not signed,” Lee Jr. explained. “The deal was, when I turn 18, if I want that contract, it is always open… And I also signed a random like contract for when I turned 18, me versus Mox in a death match. I don’t know if I’ll take that offer up. I’ll definitely wrestle him. I don’t know in a death match, though.”
Training In The Dungeon
While he finishes school, Lee Jr. has been honing his skills at the modern-day “Dungeon” in Florida, run by WWE Superstar Natalya and producer TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd). He praised the environment and the dedication of the trainers.
“It’s hard to not succeed and do bad when you have trainers like Natty and TJ, because they are next level amazing,” Lee Jr. said. “It’s invite only, so not anybody can go… It feels rewarding.”
