Chris Jericho is enjoying his AEW return, which has seen the veteran adopt a new one-word moniker: “Jericho.”
Speaking on Close Up with Renee Paquette, Jericho reflected on his comeback this past April, which followed a year away from the ring, and heaped praise on his return opponent, Ricochet. He credited the athletic star with helping him rediscover his footing and reshape his own character.
“That actually worked out great because he is so athletic and he is so acrobatic, but I got in and I realized I didn’t really lose a step either. So that was a great perfect first opponent to have,” Jericho said. “It was a great storyline because he’s an awesome heel. He knows how to be a heel, and that helped me kind of reimagine what a babyface Jericho was like.”
Jericho made clear that the early stretch of his comeback has exceeded his expectations, and that enjoyment remains his guiding principle. “I couldn’t be happier with the first couple of months of this return and just how it’s been accepted and just how much fun it’s been,” he said. “That’s the point, at this time. If I’m not having fun, I don’t want to do it.”
Jericho had been absent from AEW television since last April, when he dropped a mask versus title match against Bandido for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship. His next challenge is already on the horizon: a grudge match against Tommaso Ciampa, set for the July 9 edition of Dynamite.
