Cody Rhodes confirms his AEW contract status

Cody Rhodes dropped a loss to  Sammy Guevara in a ladder match to unify the TNT Title and interim TNT Title to make an undisputed champion. Originally, their rematch was supposed to take place a few weeks ago on Rampage, but Rhodes had to pull out of the match.

AEW has released a video of Rhodes talking about the loss after the match. This is where he inserted reality into storyline as he confirmed that he is indeed working without a contract.

As previously reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Rhodes’ deal expired at the end of 2021. However, many people don’t expect him to leave considering he’s still wrestling for AEW, he’s also an executive there, his family works for the promotion, and he has a reality show on TNT.

“You asked for post-match comments so there are so many elephants in the room. This is an insane week in wrestling. People think the Sean Ross [Sapp] story is BS. No, it’s not, I’m working here without a contract. I’m not even on payroll anymore. I’m working here on a handshake deal, that is 100% legitimate, I swear on Pharaoh’s life. I can tell you this, I’ve never felt more at home than under those lights, wrestling for the TNT Title, a title that will never ever be secondary because of matches like that.”
