Early Estimate for AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2023 PPV Buys

AEW presented its second co-promoted pay-per-view event, Forbidden Door, with NJPW this past Sunday, and it was a success.

Following the event, AEW President Tony Khan noted the show set its all-time live gate record with $1.2 million with 13,600 fans in attendance and 13,100 paid.

Khan also indicated the PPV buys were up from last year’s show which did around 141,000 buys, and were up from last month’s Double or Nothing show.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave some more insight. He noted that the US streaming numbers through Bleacher Report was up five percent from Double or Nothing but down overall by 11.7 percent on television from both the Double or Nothing and Revolution shows, which did almost identical first-week numbers.

International buys were nearly identical to Double or Nothing. New Japan World is expected to bring in 5,000 to 10,000 more buys.

Forbidden Door was down 19.6 percent for television PPV buys from last year’s Forbidden Door event.
