Tony Khan is set to make a surprise appearance in Dark Side of the Ring’s upcoming deep dive into TNA, and the show’s producer says it was a get they never saw coming.
Speaking on Talk Is Jericho, Dark Side of the Ring co-creator Evan Husney discussed the series’ Season 7 centerpiece: an epic three-part, three-hour episode chronicling Jeff Jarrett and the rise of TNA. During production, the AEW president was unexpectedly added to the project. “Tony Khan was a surprise. It wasn’t something that we were expecting,” Husney said.
According to Husney, the opportunity came together organically while the team was filming backstage at an AEW event with Jarrett, who now works for the company. “He was like, ‘Hey, what if Tony sat down to speak a little bit about me, in terms of where I’m at now?’ And I was like, ‘That’d be awesome,'” Husney recalled. “It was so unexpected, but it was very cool.”
Husney noted that Khan is a genuine fan of the series who has seen every episode, in part because it airs alongside AEW programming internationally. Jericho, the show’s longtime narrator, suggested that landing someone of Khan’s stature could help ease the reluctance some figures have about appearing, comparing it to past coups like getting attorney Jerry McDevitt on the show.
The three-hour TNA episode is part of the seventh season of Dark Side of the Ring.
