Kenny Omega Discusses Health Struggles and “Million Dollar Question”
Kenny Omega opened up about his ongoing health battles and how they affect his in-ring performance. Speaking on Shak Wrestling, Omega was candid about the difficulties of navigating his career while managing a sickness that affects him daily.
Omega described his current status as a day-to-day battle. “It’s very difficult to test your limit and find your limit, when what I have affects me, kind of day by day, some days I feel great, some days I don’t,” Omega said. He noted the pressure to perform regardless of his condition. “It’s not like, ‘Okay, close up shop… We’re not doing Dynamite.’ No, absolutely not. I’ve got to go out there. I’ve got to give my best.”.
He emphasized that his goal is to hide his pain from the audience. “I’m trying to do that without making it very clearly obvious that there are bad days and good days for Kenny Omega,” he explained..
“I Never Saw It Coming”
Reflecting on his career, Omega noted that his current issues are not due to typical wrestling wear and tear. “The odd part about that is is as as much wear and tear as I have on my body, that’s not what’s preventing me from performing at the level that I want to be at. It’s a sickness, and I could not have prepared myself for it. I never saw it coming,” Omega revealed.
A Quiet Retirement
When asked about his ideal retirement scenario, Omega expressed a desire to leave before his skills diminish significantly. “I would like to leave when I have some semblance of athleticism left in my body,” he said.
He also shared a unique perspective on his eventual exit. “One important thing for me, too, is when I finally do leave… I don’t want people to be sad. In fact, the best case scenario for me would to be that they don’t realize I’m gone at all,” Omega stated. He explained that he hopes the company will have built enough stars to “distract from me stepping away from the scene.”.
