Kenny Omega is a two-time AEW World Champion. Omega defeated MJF in the main event of AEW Dynamite: Beach Break on Wednesday at The BayCare Sound in Clearwater, Florida, winning the championship in a match where a loss would have barred him from ever challenging for the title again.
It was the third singles match between the two, all with the championship at stake across MJF’s separate reigns, including Omega’s loss at Dynasty earlier this year when a shot from the Dynamite Diamond Ring cost him the title. The win ends that pursuit with the same stipulation that permanently sidelined Cody Rhodes and Hangman Page after their losses.
The result sets the main event of All In: London. Omega will defend the AEW World Championship against Owen Hart Cup winner Will Ospreay at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, August 30. The two crossed paths on the show before the title changed hands, with Ospreay telling Renee Paquette he hoped to face Omega at Wembley before MJF interrupted, spat in his face, and had to be separated by security.
Omega’s win capped a night that crowned two new champions and set a Redemption title match at the outdoor waterfront amphitheater.
Beach Break Results
- Tommaso Ciampa defeated Chris Jericho. Ciampa threw sand in Jericho’s eyes to escape the Walls of Jericho and won with a running knee. Jericho bled after taking Angel’s Wings onto the steel steps, and Ciampa attacked him with a chair afterward before security stopped him from using a power drill.
- Kyle Fletcher defeated Konosuke Takeshita to win the AEW International Championship, finishing him with a brainbuster to bring the title to the Don Callis Family. Mick Foley appeared as guest interviewer afterward, and a confrontation involving Kevin Knight and Andrade El Idolo led to Don Callis making Andrade an offer for next week.
- Willow Nightingale returned from injury and won the Women’s Casino Gauntlet, pinning Julia Hart to earn an AEW Women’s World Championship match against Thekla at Redemption on July 26. Afterward, Divine Dominion attacked Julia Hart and Skye Blue, and Mercedes Mone laid out both Thekla and Nightingale with the Owen Hart Cup belt.
- Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley defeated The WorkHorsemen with a combination Paradigm Shift and Hidden Blade.
- Kenny Omega defeated MJF to win the AEW World Championship.
Next week’s Dynamite is set to feature the fallout, including whatever agreement Don Callis offered Andrade.
