Kyle Fletcher Reveals Tony Khan told him he has the “Brightest Future” in Wrestling
Kyle Fletcher has quickly ascended the ranks in All Elite Wrestling, currently holding the TNT Championship. In a recent interview on The Takedown on SI, Fletcher opened up about his relationship with AEW President Tony Khan and a specific compliment that has stuck with him throughout his run.
Fletcher described his dynamic with Khan as positive and frequent. “I’ve always had an awesome relationship with Tony. I speak with him regularly. We have great conversations about anything and everything,” Fletcher said. He then revealed a significant moment of validation he received early in his tenure. “Very early on, when I got to AEW, just in random passing one day, he said that he thinks I have the brightest future in all of professional wrestling. And that was hearing that, even though it was just in passing, I went like, Dang dude. Like, that’s what you think of me that’s, that’s super high praise.”
“Pressure is a Privilege”
With such high expectations comes a significant amount of pressure, something Fletcher admits can be heavy for a young performer. He explained that he is navigating his personal identity alongside his professional one. “Being as young as I am, I’m still trying to figure a lot of this out… I’m trying to figure out who I am as a person at the same time as I’m trying to figure out who I am inside of wrestling,” he explained. “So this, this kind of like you said, this burden. It feels pretty big at times. It feels pretty overwhelming at times.”
To cope with these expectations, Fletcher relies on a mantra that he has permanently inked on his body. “I literally have a tattoo on my arm that says pressure is a privilege, and I love that, because I feel this immense pressure every day, and I felt it ever since I knew I wanted to be a professional wrestler,” Fletcher stated. “I felt this immense pressure that I was meant to do something great… It feels pretty damning, but it is a privilege. And I try to remind myself every day that it is a privilege, because I have something that gets me out of bed every day.”
Seizing Opportunities
Fletcher attributes his current spot on the card to his ability to capitalize on the chances Khan has given him. He believes his passion for the industry is evident to his boss. “I think Tony saw that every opportunity I got given i i gave it my all. I gave my everything. He sees how much I love, aw, how much I love pro wrestling,” Fletcher said.
He concluded by noting that while the pressure to succeed can be tiring, he wouldn’t change his trajectory. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am incredibly blessed to have this drive and this ambition. And I will, yeah, I’ll stop at nothing.”
