Matt Hardy has publicly congratulated Cage and Cope on their AEW Tag Team Championship win at Double or Nothing 2026, while teasing a potential future Hardys-Cage-Cope encounter that he framed as “one more night of magic.”
Cage and Cope defeated FTR in a New York Street Fight I Quit match at Double or Nothing 2026 to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The match carried the stipulation that if Cage and Cope lost, they would have been forced to retire as a tag team forever. The win marks the first AEW Tag Team Championship reign for both wrestlers in their AEW runs.
Hardy posted his congratulations on X with a throwback photo featuring Cage and Cope alongside Matt and Jeff Hardy.
“Congrats to @Christian4Peeps & @RatedRCope on becoming @AEW Tag Team Champs. Great stuff! Not sure where, not sure when. But we’ve got ONE more night of magic left in us.”
The Hardys are currently signed to TNA Wrestling after returning to the company in February 2025 following the expiration of their AEW contracts. TNA has been working under a WWE partnership umbrella, with cross-promotional bookings frequent across the past year.
On the most recent episode of the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, he predicted that FTR would win the I Quit match and become tag champions for the first time in 25 years. Cage and Cope ultimately won instead.
Matt was part of the Hardy Family Office faction and aligned with Private Party during portions of his AEW run. Hardy has separately critiqued AEW’s booking of the Hardy Family Office storyline on the Extreme Life podcast, saying it watered down Private Party’s development opportunity.
Congrats to @Christian4Peeps & @RatedRCope on becoming @AEW Tag Team Champs. Great stuff!
