There are more details on Ric Flair’s exit from WWE in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer noted the conflicting stories on Flair’s departure and noted that WWE’s statement on their website did not include the part where they wish him well on his future endeavors.
While those in WWE claim that it was Vince McMahon’s decision to let go of him, Flair has claimed that he asked for his release.
Meltzer noted in The Observer that there were several things at play, including Flair’s high salary. As a company ambassador, he was said to be making more money on his recent deal than he made during his best years as a world champion in WCW.
Multiple sources noted to Meltzer that Flair had complained about the creative regarding his daughter Charlotte. Flair had been publicly critical of the storyline that involved him, Charlotte, and Lacey Evans a few months ago.
As far as a possible jump to AEW, Flair is good friends with Tony Khan. In fact, Khan was a guest at Flair’s wedding in 2018. It’s unclear if there is a non-compete that would prevent him from signing with AEW right away.
