Will Ospreay Pitched Tony Khan On An AEW Show At The Colosseum

Will Ospreay has some ambitious ideas for AEW’s future venues, including one truly historic location.

Speaking with 1077 The Bone, the AEW star revealed that he pitched company president Tony Khan on the idea of running a show at The Colosseum in Rome. Ospreay, who views wrestling as having no boundaries and even joked that he would love to see a wrestling musical one day, said AEW’s recent run of unique venues has been a personal highlight.

“For me, the best bit about AEW right now is these crazy venues that we’ve been doing. These venues have been amazing,” Ospreay said. “I’ve heard Tony saying that he wants to go and explore different markets. I’ve heard it was Puerto Rico that he recently said, he said France. There are so many crazy, intricate venues that we could find ourselves in.”

That train of thought led Ospreay to one particularly grand idea. “In Italy, I found out that they’ve been renting out The Colosseum to do nightclub events, DJ events. I was just like, ‘Mate, if we did a pro wrestling event in The Colosseum, it would be incredible,'” he said. He noted that he has wrestled in Italy before, recalling a small independent show with roughly 120 wild fans.

Ospreay made it clear he would be all in on the concept, even teasing a memorable entrance. “If there was wrestling in The Colosseum, I’m going. I’d come out in a little Trojan horse, little toga on. Man, I love it,” he said.

The pitch was not just talk, either, as Ospreay revealed he followed up with Khan directly. “I sent him a link just being like, ‘Look, we could rent this building out, mate.’ So maybe if enough people push him into it, it’ll probably happen,” he said.
