The issues between CM Punk and The Elite (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks’ Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson, & “Hangman” Adam Page) are still in play due to their history together, something that has been well documented and known by wrestling fans.
Punk got into a backstage brawl with Omega and The Young Bucks at All Out 2022 after he ripped several wrestlers, including all of the members of the Elite at the post-event press conference before getting to the fight.
When Punk returned to AEW, it was decided by AEW President Tony Khan that Punk would be separated from those who didn’t like him by working on the Collision brand.
As previously reported, the issues between those in AEW who don’t like CM Punk and Punk did not improve following his interview with ESPN and his return promo. It was said the divisiveness has become worse.
It was confirmed this week that The Elite has all signed multi-year contracts with AEW. Some fans had been speculating whether being in the same promotion as Punk would have an impact on their decision to go or stay.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the issues between the two sides remain.
Meltzer wrote, “Even with the signing, there do remain significant behind-the-scenes issues that haven’t been settled, between them and C.M. Punk, which keeps Khan having to do a balancing act.”
