WWE got a bit of good news earlier this week when they saw a ratings bump for Monday Night Raw. Time will tell if all of the hotshot booking will help them in the long term.
The good news for WWE ended just a few days later when the numbers came out that AEW drew their best number this week in many months against NXT.
As was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, nobody in WWE will say it publicly but there is a lot of unhappiness within the company about NXT losing in the ratings. NXT has lost the ratings battle on most weeks and it’s taken super stacked shows to barely beat out AEW on the rare times they have won.
Their losses in the ratings are the reason why they are using more writers with five people writing the weekly shows.
WWE brought in Pat McAfee to get them some mainstream attention and they did get some coverage on ESPN when Triple H was on to issue a challenge to McAfee on behalf of Adam Cole for TakeOver: XXX.
As previously noted, this week’s AEW Dynamite was ranked among the top 5 shows in the key demo. Dynamite drew a total of 901,000 viewers to NXT’s 753,000 viewers on Wednesday.
WrestlingNews.co was told that there’s been talk again of bringing in some main roster Raw/SmackDown stars to NXT.
