Latin Lover Says Konnan Is Waiting On A Second Kidney Transplant After His Body Rejected The First

Latin Lover says Konnan is waiting on a second kidney transplant after his body rejected the first.

The former AAA star devoted an episode of his YouTube show to Konnan. Latin Lover said Konnan received a kidney transplant years ago and that his body accepted it for eight years before rejecting it. He said Konnan has been waiting since then for another transplant or for a donor to come forward.

Asked about reports that Konnan has had one or both legs amputated, Latin Lover declined to confirm anything, saying it was not his to disclose and that the decision to speak publicly belongs to Konnan. He repeated the point several times.

The last time he saw him

Latin Lover said the last time he saw Konnan was at an airport. He said he noticed a wheelchair being boarded onto a plane with paramedics, looked closer, and recognized Konnan. Konnan was flying home to San Diego, connecting through Mexico City.

About fifteen minutes after boarding, the paramedics returned. A flight attendant told Latin Lover the doors could not close because Konnan’s oxygen levels were dropping and cabin pressure could worsen it. The captain said Konnan could not fly.

Konnan was taken off the plane. Latin Lover offered to stay; a company coordinator remained with him instead. The two have spoken by phone since.

Latin Lover said he has not called recently because he does not want Konnan to assume he is calling about the rumors.

Expenses

Latin Lover spent much of the episode on the cost of Konnan’s care, noting that Konnan lives in San Diego and that property taxes, groceries and utilities continue regardless of medical bills.

He addressed Vince Russo’s claim that WWE is covering Konnan’s medical costs. Latin Lover said he does not know whether it is true and would not ask. His point was that coverage would not address the rest.

He encouraged viewers who want to help to do so, and said the tribute was not something Konnan requested.

Latin Lover also credited Konnan with helping Mexican wrestlers reach the United States, naming Rey Mysterio, Penta, Fenix, Héctor Garza, Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera among those he helped get WCW contracts. He said Konnan also brought foreign wrestlers to Mexico when their American contracts ended.

Konnan underwent a kidney transplant in 2007 following organ failure. He was hospitalized in February 2021 with COVID-19, which caused further kidney complications and heart failure. Reports in March said he had undergone a leg amputation in San Diego. Russo said in June that a second leg had been amputated.

Konnan is scheduled to be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame at Bound For Glory on October 11 in Tampa, Florida. Konnan joins ODB and Amazing Red in the 2026 class. We wish him the best.
