Early Wrestling Career

Christian Cage began his wrestling training in 1995 under Ron Hutchinson, who also trained Cage’s childhood friend, Edge. Together, Cage and Edge formed a tag team on the independent scene and were known as High Impact and later on known as Suicidal Blondes.

1998: Christian debuts in WWE

Christian debuted at Breakdown to distract Edge in his match against Owen Hart and formed an alliance with Gangrel. Christian’s first match was at Judgment Day where he won the Light Heavyweight title from Taka Michinoku. Edge joined Christian and Gangrel to form The Brood in December.

1999: Christian and The Brood join The Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness

The Brood joined The Undertaker’s Ministry of Darkness, but when Undertaker was going to flog Christian for losing a match, The Brook left the Ministry. In July, Gangrel turned on Edge. Christian sided with Edge while Gangrel formed a unit with Matt & Jeff Hardy known as The New Brood.

2000: Feuds with Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz, birth of five second pose, TLC matches

At WrestleMania 2000, Edge and Christian defeated The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz in a Ladder match. In May, they lost the title to Too Cool (Grand Master Sexay and Scotty 2 Hotty) on RAW. They regained them in June in a four corner’s tag team match at King of the Ring. They became heels and began their “Five second pose” for the audience. They lost the titles to the Hardy Boyz in September at Unforgiven, but regained them again in October at No Mercy. They once again lost them back to the Hardy Boyz the next night on RAW. Edge and Christian once again won the title at Armageddon, this time from Right to Censor (Bull Buchanon and The Goodfather). They lost the titles to The Rock and The Undertaker a week later on RAW, but regained them the next day at SmackDown.

2001: WrestleMania X-7 TLC match, heel turn against Edge

Edge and Christian lost the WWF Tag Team titles to The Dudley Boyz at Royal Rumble. They defeated The Hardy Boyz in March on RAW, but lost the titles to The Dudley Boyz the same night. They regained the titles at WrestleMania X-7 in a three way TLC match that also included The Hardy Boyz. Two weeks later, they lost the titles to Kane and The Undertaker. During the Invasion angle, Christian turned heel to oppose team WWE and he went against Edge for Edge’s Intercontinental title. He would go on to defeat Edge for that title at Unforgiven, but lost it back to him at No Mercy. He defeated Al Snow at Survivor Series.

2002: Feud with DDP, Un-Americans form

Christian lost the European title to Diamond Dallas Page in January. In June, Christian, Lance Storm and Test formed The Un-Americans. Christian and Storm defeated Hollywood Hogan and Edge for the WWE Tag Team titles at Vengeance. William Regal joined the Un-Americans in September. Christian and Storm lost the tag titles to The Hurricane and Kane in September on RAW. The Un-Americans turned on each other after both Christian and Storm as well as Regal and Test lost in tag matches on RAW which spelled the end of The Un-Americans. Christian then formed a team with Chris Jericho and won the World Tag Team Championship from The Hurricane and Kane in October on RAW. They lost them to Booker T and Goldust at Armageddon.

2003: Christian forms friendship with Chris Jericho

In April, despite being a heel, Christian nicknamed himself, “The People’s Champion”, and his fans as “His Peeps”. At the Judgment Day PPV, he won the Intercontinental title in a Battle Royal. He lost the title to Booker T in July, but regained it from Booker in August. Christian then lost the title to Rob Van Dam in a Ladder match in September on RAW. Jericho began a storyline relationship with Trish Stratus and Christian started one with Lita. The angle started out as a bet between Jericho and Christian to see who could sleep with their partner first. Stratus overheard the conversation and ended the relationship. When Kane went to attack Stratus, Jericho saved her and they agreed to be friends.

2004: Christian feuds with Chris Jericho, alliance with Trish Stratus

Chris Jericho began feuding with Christian when Christian put Trish Stratus in the Walls of Jericho. This led to a match between Jericho and Christian at WrestleMania XX. Stratus ran down to help Jericho, but “accidentally” struck Jericho which led to a win by Christian. After the match, Stratus turned on Jericho and let it be known that her and Christian were a couple. Jericho defeated Christian for the Intercontinental title at Unforgiven. He lost it to Shelton Benjamin at Taboo Tuesday.

2005: Christian leaves WWE

After failing to win the Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank, or John Cena’s WWE Title, Christian was drafted to SmackDown in June. Christian lost at the remaining PPVs he appeared in for the rest of the year as his contract expired at the end of October.

2005: Christian Cage debuts in TNA

Christian Cage debuted for TNA in November of 2005 as a babyface and issued the challenge to NWA Champion Jeff Jarrett.

2006: Christian Cage wins NWA World Title, heel turn

Christian Cage defeated Jarrett at Against All Odds to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title. He lost the title back to Jarrett at Slammiversary. Cage turned heel on Sting in August. Cage would go on to feud with Sting as well as Rhino for the remainder of the year. Christian enlisted the aid of Tyson Tomko in November to be his enforcer.

2007: Christian Cage regains NWA World Title

Christian Cage once again became NWA Champion at Final Resolution winning a three way elimination match that involved Sting and Abyss. Scott Steiner joined forces with Christian and Tomko to form “Christian’s Coalition”. In May, the NWA disassociated themselves from TNA. Christian defended what was called the World Heavyweight Championship against Sting and Kurt Angle, with Angle emerging as the winner and known as the TNA Champion. In November, both Tomko and AJ Styles aligned themselves with Kurt Angle and were known as The Angle Alliance. Tomko was helping Angle’s group and Christian.

2008: Christian Cage leaves TNA

In January, Tomko left both groups. Kurt Angle retained the title over Christian Cage at Final Resolution with AJ Styles attacking Cage which turned Cage babyface.

2009: Christian returns to WWE wins ECW Title

Christian returned under his WWE name for the ECW brand. He defeated Jack Swagger for the ECW title at Backlash. He lost it to Tommy Dreamer in a triple threat hardcore match that also involved Swagger. Christian regained the title from Dreamer at Night of Champions.

2010: Christian loses ECW title, moves to Raw brand

On February 22nd, the final episode of ECW aired with Christian losing the ECW Title to Ezekial Jackson. The next week, it was announced that Christian signed with RAW. He got drafted to SmackDown in May. He tore his pectoral muscle that kept him out of action for four months.

2011: Christian wins World Heavyweight Title

When Edge had to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship due to a legitimate injury, a match was made between Christian and Alberto Del Rio for the title which saw Christian emerge victorious. On the May 6th episode, he lost the title to Randy Orton on SmackDown. Christian turned on Randy Orton when Christian was made special referee in a Orton-Sheamus title match. Christian regained the title from Orton at Money in the Bank by DQ per the stipulation that if Orton got DQ’d, he would lose the title. Christian lost the title back to Orton at SummerSlam in a No Holds Barred match.

2012: Christian wins Intercontinental Title

Christian defeated Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental title at Over the Limit and turned babyface. He explained that he realized his career can come to an end like Edge’s did and wants to have a Hall of Fame career. Christian lost the title to The Miz at RAW 1000. Christian suffered an injury that kept him out the rest of the year.

2013: Christian returns from injury

Christian returned from his injury in June.

2014: Christian retires

Christian turned heel by attacking Daniel Bryan in February. Christian retired due to concussion issues.

2014-2019: Various WWE appearances

Christian would pop on WWE TV and network shows in various roles, but did not return to action.

2020: Christian attacked by Randy Orton

Christian as a babyface had a few angles with Randy Orton, ending with Orton Christian in the head.

2021: Christian makes surprise return at WWE Royal Rumble

Christian made an in-ring appearance in the Royal Rumble, entering at number 24. Christian’s contract expired shortly after this.

2021: Christian Cage signs with AEW, wins World Title

Christian showed up at Revolution and announced he signed a multi-year deal with AEW. He reverted back to his ring name of Christian Cage. He made his first in-ring singles appearance in seven years on Dynamite in March. In June, he began to mentor Jungle Boy. Luchasaurus would also join the team. AEW and Impact Wrestling were working together with AEW’s Kenny Omega winning the Impact Championship. Christian defeated Omega for the title on the debut edition of Rampage. He lost the title back to Omega at All Out.

2022: Christian Cage mentors Jurassic Express, turns heel on Jungle Boy

Jurassic Express won the AEW Tag Team titles from The Lucha Brothers on Dynamite in January. They would lose the titles in June to The Young Bucks in a Ladder match when Cage turned on Jungle Boy.
