Matt Hardy Explains How He Got Banged Up At TNA Slammiversary

Matt Hardy came out of TNA Slammiversary with tag team gold and a battle wound, and he shared the behind-the-scenes story of how he banged up his arm.

Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the veteran reflected on the four-team ladder match at Slammiversary, where he and Jeff Hardy captured the TNA World Tag Team Championships. He was pleased with how the bout came together.

“I ended up being very happy with the match. We had four teams, and I felt like all the teams had a moment to shine,” Hardy said, calling that a priority whenever the Hardys are involved.

The match did leave Hardy with some bruising, and he explained that it stemmed from an unplanned moment involving his brother. As Hardy tells it, Jeff’s tendency to improvise led to a table being pulled out that they actually needed intact for later.

“Jeff is, like, so present in the moment. A lot of times he just goes off script,” Hardy said. When Hardy was later thrown into the ring steps, he had to protect the table, taking the impact awkwardly. “I ended up taking the stairs shoulder first, and my arm got jabbed right in the point of the stairs. It was super swollen.”

Hardy took the mishap in stride, framing it as part of the charm of working with his brother. “That happens a lot with Jeff, and it’s one of the things I love about it, because once he just feels something, he kind of rolls with it,” he said. “But sometimes, like, hey brother, stay on track, dude.”

Hardy added that the finished product made it all worthwhile, calling Slammiversary a home run for TNA. “Everyone was ecstatic with it,” he said. “I thought it was a show that TNA needed.”
