Kenny Omega’s manager Don Callis has been trying to recruit top prospect Konosuke Takeshita for months now.
“Speedball” Mike Bailey defeated Takeshita to win the 2023 PWG BOLA (Battle of Los Angeles) tournament on Sunday night.
Since November, Callis has appeared at ringside during his matches, with an interesting situation at PWG seemingly being the next part of this ongoing storyline.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer, who was at the show, noted that AEW did an angle with Callis and Takeshita.
“I guess during the show, Don Callis came out, but people were watching the match, and I don’t think people knew he was there. And then the show is over, and he’s walking around, and there are AEW cameras there filming him walking around BOLA, so this was taped for AEW. There were guys pretending to be TMZ reporters…’Don blah, blah, blah.’ Asking him questions, and he’s like giving smarmy answers. He walks around the ring, and there’s Takeshita, and he kind of comes up to him. I saw him talking with Takeshita, but I didn’t see what they were saying.”
Meltzer noted that it was seemingly Callis putting over the AEW star and kind of like the heel trying to swerve a young baby face while recruiting him as he has done in past weeks.
As previously reported, AEW has significant plans to push Takeshita as a top star. Takeshita is set to take on Bryan Danielson on this week’s episode of Dynamite in LA.
