Backstage news on what AEW wanted from WWE for Billy Gunn to appear on Raw with DX

D-Generation X celebrated their 25h anniversary with Triple H, Sean Waltman, Shawn Michaels, and Road Dogg reuniting to close the October 10th edition of WWE Raw.

One name missing from the reunion – AEW’s Billy Gunn. It was reported that WWE did toss around the idea of trying to get Gunn for the reunion, but that didn’t happen.

Road Dogg, Gunn’s longtime tag team partner, stated on his podcast that Gunn wanted to make the appearance, and it broke both of their hearts that it didn’t happen. He added that Triple H, Michaels, and Waltman weren’t happy Gunn didn’t get to appear either.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there were “meaningful talks” between WWE and AEW about having Gunn appear on the show. Money being exchanged wasn’t a factor, as WWE never offered money, nor did AEW President Tony Khan ask for it.

Instead, “Khan agreed to let him do to the show, but on the air, they would have to mention he’s from AEW, or that AEW allowed him to appear or some wording, but there had to be one mention that in some form he works for AEW, just as WWE already did when they got Mickie James for the Royal Rumble this past year.”

The report added that WWE stalled when answering Khan and would not agree to the terms at the last minute.
