CM Punk Was Not a Dealbreaker for AEW to Secure Deal for Collision Show

CM Punk has been absent from AEW television since last September due to the brawl with The Elite and an injury he sustained during his main event bout with Jon Moxley.

Punk is on his way back as he will be the main star for the Collision show that is slated to premiere on June 17 as a weekly two-hour Saturday night prime time series. The show, as well as AEW’s new deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, is expected to be announced next week.

It has been reported that AEW President Tony Khan wanted Punk to make a return to the promotion, and WBD also wanted to see Punk back due to the star power that he brings to AEW.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that AEW Collision would have happened regardless of Punk’s involvement

Meltzer wrote, “Someone very familiar with the negotiations of the Collision deal has said that the show would have happened with or without Punk, but absolutely WBD wanted Punk.”

There will be a special name for the premiere episode of the show. Punk and Colt Cabana could also be working in the same locker room despite their differences.
