New Japan Pro Wrestling has confirmed the main event for its biggest event of the year, NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Jay White will defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against G1 Climax winner Kazuchika Okada.
NJPW confirmed the match in the closing moments of Monday’s Declaration of Power event, where White had successfully defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Tama Tonga. White was doing a promo when Okada, who picked up a victory over JONAH in the co-main event, entered the ring and had a staredown with him.
It was announced that they would headline the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2023. White has a 4-1 record in one-on-one matches against Okada, who beat him in the Tokyo Dome at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 13.
No other matches have been confirmed for the event.
