AEW and NJPW have decided to change up their plans for the upcoming Forbidden Door 3 pay-per-view event.
Last year’s show pulled in a gate of $1.2 million with 13,600 fans in attendance and 13,100 paid. It was highly praised thanks to several matches, including Will Ospreay beating Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Title and Bryan Danielson defeating Kazuchika Okada in the main event.
The third annual pay-per-view has not been announced for this year, but it is expected to take place. The expected location for the event had been Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, something Andrew Zarian first reported.
According to Zarian, Forbidden Door 3 will not be happening at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“So Arthur Ashe Stadium [is] not getting Forbidden Door. I’m positive Sean [Ross Sapp] also has a piece of this. I’m gonna leave it to him to kind of break that part. But I do know of a possible venue. I’m not against that venue. It’s not Madison Square Garden, by the way.”
Zarian said that a lot of things have changed in AEW and there’s a reason for it not happening at the stadium. It was added that the location is also not Barclays Center in Brooklyn or the Nassau Coliseum either.
