WWE presents a new episode of SmackDown tonight from Denver, Colorado and has loaded up the show with notable matches, but WWE also may have a surprise in store for fans.
Things confirmed for the show are LA Knight vs. The Miz, The Grayson Waller Effect with guest John Cena, AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor, and more.
As previously covered, The Rock made headlines while on The Pat McAfee Show, where he talked about why a WrestleMania 39 match with Roman Reigns didn’t happen and noted he’s open to it next year at WrestleMania 40.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that after reaching out to higher-ups, they were told “the door is always open” regarding the match. They were told there were considerations and meetings regarding the match as Rock had claimed in the interview.
There were also other plans considered in the Summer and Fall of 2022. Those in the company have an “I’ll believe it when I see it” type of reaction to the possibility of it happening.
Because Rock was at the University of Colorado, he is nearby tonight’s SmackDown in Denver.
Fightful was told by a cast member from McAfee’s show that The Rock and Pat McAfee would at least be at tonight’s SmackDown. Fightful has yet to confirm this, though nor whether The Rock could appear.
