Road Dogg Says Test Didn’t Become a Bigger Star in WWE Because of Drug Issues

On the latest “Oh You Didn’t Know” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg talked about the Hardcore Championship that WWE introduced during the Attitude Era. We have a couple of highlights below. Scroll down to listen to the entire podcast.

Road Dogg believes there should not be a Hardcore Championship in today’s wrestling:

“I think there’s room for it today, but my argument against it today would be if you had that, then you have to have that on TV, then you have to go hardcore, and then that’s not special when you want to go there in a heated angle. Then you get to Hell in the Cell and all that comes out or whatever is the end, the finishing product of a hot angle or a hot story that’s been going on, you know, it just normalizes the hardcore aspect, or the dare I say violent aspect of those things. It should warrant where you’re at in a story. It should warrant, I’m gonna hit you with something now. You know what I mean? It’s not just every week that’s what we do. So that would be my argument against having that Hardcore title today.”

On why he feels Test didn’t become a bigger star:

“I don’t know this for sure, but you’re asking me and so I’m telling you what I think. I think drugs were the downfall of Test as well. I say that because they were the downfall of the Road Dogg also. He was a good kid. He was a good talent. He was long. He was quick across the ring. There were a lot of things, a lot of positives, and again, I don’t know. I got screwed up and fired so I wasn’t there when he got screwed up and fired. Thank God in heaven above I came out the other side of it. A lot of my friends haven’t. If you don’t do drugs, don’t start, and if you started, stop.”
