Roman Reigns’ WWE WrestleMania 39 victory was always the plan

Following Cody Rhodes’ WWE return last year at WrestleMania 38, he made it clear that he wanted to become WWE Champion.

Rhodes had his chance after returning from injury in the number 30 spot in the men’s Royal Rumble match, winning it, and earning a shot at Roman Reigns Undisputed WWE Universal Title.

Many believed he was the man to snap Reigns’ reign on top. WWE slowly built up to it, serving as the main event of the second night of WrestleMania. There was outside interference from The Usos only, eventually leading Reigns to walk away with the title after Solo Sikoa hit Rhodes with the samoan spike. The finish of the match shocked a lot of fans.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the plan was for Reigns to always walk away with the title.

Meltzer wrote, “Reigns winning was always the plan, although it was kept secret and almost nobody knew.”

WWE is moving away from the feud with Reigns and Rhodes for now as Brock Lesnar turned heel and attacked Rhodes on Monday Night Raw.
