WWE CEO Nick Khan has been credited for the focus on the NXT brand by using main roster stars on the developmental show to help boost television ratings ahead of the media rights deal expiring with the USA Network and to improve its wrestlers of tomorrow.
In recent months, NXT’s ratings have skyrocketed from where they had been, drawing some of its best numbers in years thanks to appearances by the likes of Rey Mysterio, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, and members of The Judgment Day.
Ahead of the official acquisition of The Endeavor Group next month with the plan to merge WWE and UFC into a new company, Endeavor has reportedly bought into the vision of Khan for NXT.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported, “There is a renewed focus from Endeavor as well as Nick Khan on making NXT what was termed a sustainable third brand.”
The new goal is to return to NXT holding shows outside Florida in 2,000-seat arenas for TV events. There is still no timeline for this to happen.
