WWE is closing in on holding its first major UK pay-per-view event since 1992 with next Saturday’s Clash in the Castle.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “Ronda Rousey was originally to be on this show. I don’t know if she is still going to appear, but she is not scheduled for a match at this point.”
With the original plan for her to be involved in a match at this show, it would explain why WWE put her back on television shortly after her storyline ‘suspension.’
Rousey wrestled Liv Morgan for the SmackDown Women’s Title at SummerSlam after Morgan won the title in early July at Money in the Bank.
Rousey tapped out Morgan seconds before the referee counted three as Rousey’s shoulders were pinned on the mat, and the referee gave Morgan the win, which led to Rousey turning heel by attacking Morgan and the referee after the match. Although WWE announced a storyline fine and suspension for Rousey due to her actions, she made her return a few weeks later.
The report noted that WWE officials are happy with the reactions Rousey has been getting since SummerSlam.
The idea was for Rousey to be a long-term heel, but the current storyline of her defying authority while suspended has made her a babyface while Morgan, who is supposed to be the babyface, has been getting booed by some fans.
Morgan will defend her SmackDown Women’s Title against Shayna Baszler at Clash at the Castle. It’s possible Rousey may get involved in the match.
