All signs point to “Switchblade” Jay White departing from NJPW soon and there’s been talk of interest from WWE but they are looking at another major name.
White lost a “Loser leaves Japan” match to Hikuleo at NJPW The New Beginning in Osaka and is supposed to work AEW’s Eddie Kingston at Saturday’s Battle in the Valley pay-per-view in San Jose, California.
This comes following a report noting that his NJPW deal was slated to expire soon with the belief he would be leaving and had interest from AEW and WWE.
Although White is one of NJPW’s biggest stars, WWE is looking at a bigger name right now.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that those in WWE who would know about major acquisitions during WrestleMania season stated the company is looking to sign a much bigger free agent than White.
Meltzer wrote, “It is not clear what is next for White, although one would suspect WWE or AEW would be his next destination, because nothing else would make sense. Those in WWE who would normally know of major acquisitions during Mania season didn’t know about this one and only said that there was a much bigger major free agent in play right now that was internally the priority.”
On Thursday, NJPW added a stipulation to White’s match with Kingston. The match now stipulates that if White loses, he will never wrestle in NJPW again. If Kingston loses, he will never wrestle in an NJPW ring against an NJPW talent.
