WWE Champion AJ Styles recently spoke with Al.com to promote Saturday’s SmackDown live event at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, AL. During the interview, he was asked about his favorite match from last year in WWE. He noted that he had a lot of great matches last year and that his matches with Roman Reigns set the tone of how he was going to be presented in 2016. He believes that after his matches with Reigns, it showed the fans that he was going to get after it and have great matches with just about anyone on the roster.
When asked about getting over with the fans as a heel more than he was over as a babyface, Styles stated that sometimes he feels that he is not getting enough people booing him, which makes him feel that he is not doing his job right. He thinks that he needs to be better at being a heel. He said that fans just refuse to accept him as a bad guy sometimes and it has a lot do with how much time he spent outside of WWE and then coming to the company and doing so well gets him respect. “But it’s up to me to make sure that these fans find a way to boo me. And I think that when you’re in the ring with guys like John Cena where people love to boo him but when you cut a promo the way he did last Tuesday night, you’ve got to love that.” He noted that you have to love the passion that Cena brings and that when he does that then it makes him the heel when someone with that passion comes at you like that. H said that it was a great moment.
AJ also discussed the brand split and more. You can read the full interview here.
