John Cena’s appearance at WWE Backlash this Saturday was locked in well before he teased it on social media, with his proximity to the event’s location playing a significant role in making it happen.
According to Bodyslam, Cena will be at Backlash in Tampa, and WWE agreed to the appearance weeks ago, with Cena living in the Tampa area, making it a straightforward booking compared to events that would require extensive travel. The agreement was in place before Cena made his public announcement on social media.
Cena posted on Twitter, teasing that he would be breaking some history-making news at the event, writing that while he could not promise it would be perfect, it would change the WWE experience for superstars and fans. Benchmark International Arena, which is hosting the event, has also been advertising his appearance on its website.
Dave Meltzer previously reported that Cena is contracted to WWE for a number of appearances following his hosting duties at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, with Backlash among them.
The full announced card for WWE Backlash on Saturday, May 9 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida is as follows:
- World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
- United States Championship: Trick Williams (c) vs. Sami Zayn
