Road Dogg is back in a key creative leadership role in WWE. He was recently revealed as the SmackDown co-writer.
The former WWE star was the head writer of WWE SmackDown from 2016 to 2019. Dogg resigned as head writer but stayed on with the company.
From May 2019 through January 2022, he worked as a coach at NXT. Dogg was released before he was rehired as Senior Vice President of Live Events in August 2022. The former WWE Tag Team Champion talked about his first run as co-SmackDown head writer on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that James and John Swikata are the lead writers for SmackDown. Meltzer wrote, “We were told that there is so much going on right now that one lead writer on the show wasn’t enough. Raw has Ryan Ward and Jon Baeckstrom. Ed Koskey is there overseeing and editing the scripts, Bruce Prichard is the buffer between them and Paul Levesque.”
Swikata replaced Ryan Callahan as the head writer in June.
