Backstage news on Edge’s WWE return, how he almost went to AEW

As most of you know by now, Edge returned at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Edge was the 21st entrant and was put over strong and he was also one of the final wrestlers in the ring before Drew McIntyre won the match.

As previously noted, Edge is going to wrestle more for the company as he signed a multi-year deal last August. The deal was signed after WWE learned that he was in talks with All Elite Wrestling. The rumor within WWE is that AEW wanted to get him in for a surprise appearance at the All Out pay-per-view in Chicago but Vince McMahon offered more money.

Edge will be working a very limited schedule, similar to Brock Lesnar. He will appear on WWE TV but don’t expect him to wrestle on Raw every week.

Despite the denials, Edge was actually cleared several months ago and once he got the thumbs up from the WWE doctor in Pittsburgh, the plans were set in motion to figure out a storyline for him.

Edge and Randy Orton teased some tension during the Royal Rumble match and Edge eliminated Orton so Edge vs. Orton could be a match planned for WrestleMania. We’ll see if that is the direction they are going in the coming weeks.
