Backstage News On Why Main Roster Stars Weren’t Moved To NXT During WWE Draft

This year’s WWE Draft has come and gone, with no main roster stars going down to NXT permanently.

Blair Davenport, Kiana James, Carmelo Hayes, Baron Corbin, and Dijak were moved from NXT to the main roster across Raw and SmackDown. For the rest of the Draft, All of the champions stayed on their respective brand, and most of the top stars also stayed on the same brand they were on going into.

During the supplemental Draft, there was movement with stars on the undercard going from Raw to SmackDown and vice versa. For over a year, WWE has sent main roster talent to NXT.

Fightful Select reported that “the reasons for no talent being officially drafted to NXT included a fear some talent would see it as a demotion, along with issues about the difference between main roster and NXT contracts in WWE.”

However, it’s expected main roster talent will continue showing up in NXT in the coming months.
