US Bank Stadium Roof Issue Not Expected To Impact WWE SummerSlam

WWE’s SummerSlam plans for Minneapolis are not in any jeopardy, despite news about the venue’s roof.

On the heels of a report from The Minnesota Star Tribune that a large portion of the roof at U.S. Bank Stadium needs to be replaced due to hail damage sustained in a 2023 storm, a WWE source tells us the issue is not expected to impact SummerSlam in any way. WWE has been informed by city officials that the roof remains structurally safe.

According to the Star Tribune report, the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, which owns the stadium, has issued a request for proposals to replace the translucent section that makes up roughly 60 percent of the roof, which was damaged by the August 2023 hailstorm that brought hail as large as 2.5 inches in diameter. An engineering firm determined that the damage does not affect the overall structural performance or safety of the roof.

In a statement included in the report, the MSFA said Minnesotans “can be confident that the roof at U.S. Bank Stadium is safe,” adding that proactive steps are in place to preserve the stadium’s unique environment and that the authority’s financial safeguards have protected the public investment. Insurance is expected to cover most of the repair costs.

SummerSlam is set for a two-night run on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
