Big name ruled out as Brock Lesnar’s WWE WrestleMania opponent

As of now, there are no hints being given on who Brock Lesnar will be wrestling at WrestleMania 36 in Tampa, Florida.

As previously noted, it was announced on WWE Raw that Lesnar would be entering this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match and he will not be wrestling a singles match on the show.

One of the names that has been speculated online for Mania has been Edge. PWInsider noted that Edge has been seen at WWE events in recent weeks and I was told that Edge’s name has been rumored among people backstage for an in-ring return and people who have seen him have said that he’s in great shape and he looks like he’s ready to wrestle again.

However, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that if Edge is indeed wrestling at Mania that it won’t be against Lesnar. This was during a discussion on potential names in the company and outsiders who could be in consideration for the match.

Meltzer said, “Now that I remember certain things that I’ve been told, it couldn’t be Edge. I was told flat out Edge was not wrestling Brock Lesnar, not at the Royal Rumble and not at WrestleMania.”

There aren’t many options on Raw for Lesnar. Drew McIntyre is a possibility since he seems to be turning face. Aleister Black is someone who Paul Heyman likes and he is getting a push but it’s up to Vince McMahon on if he sees him as a guy who is worthy of being in a main event match. If not someone on Raw, then someone in NXT (Keith Lee or Matt Riddle) is a possibility. If it’s an outsider, you can rule out Tyson Fury and Cain Velasquez. Meltzer noted a few weeks ago that they have been ruled out as potential Mania opponents for Lesnar. At this point, it looks like we might not get any hints until the Royal Rumble at the earliest.
