Big update on Ric Flair’s health situation, Not heart related after all (updated)

When Ric Flair was admitted into an Atlanta area hospital’s ICU on Saturday morning a lot of people were worried. There was, even more, worry when many of Ric’s family and friends began sending out messages saying The Nature Boy needed our prayers and positive vibes more than ever.

He was put into a medically induced coma on Monday morning and taken into surgery. At the time it was being reported Flair was suffering from a heart-related issue possibly stemming from his diagnosis of alcoholic cardiomyopathy from years ago.

But now Dave Meltzer is setting the record straight in that regard. Meltzer stated on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that Ric Flair was admitted on Saturday morning because he was in a lot of pain. His surgery was colon-related and although he’s not “out of the water” yet it’s still a serious situation and the Wrestling Observer website reports he was resting after the procedure.

Just like anything else in pro wrestling, this is going to be another wait and see kind of situation but Mean Gene Okerlund is the one who initially dispelled the rumors of a heart surgery for Flair. Dave Meltzer has corroborated that story as well. So it might not as bad as first reported, but it’s still a serious situation.

Meltzer said he would be surprised to see Charlotte Flair at SmackDown Live. She’s not booked for a match at SummerSlam (which is kind of odd considering she’s Charlotte Flair), but she might have been scheduled for the big NXT reunion deal they’re doing before NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III. Although Charlotte might miss the entire weekend altogether at this point. “But that’s Saturday night” Meltzer continued, “a lot can happen between now and Saturday night.”

“It’s a real bad situation. [Ric Flair] lived a wild life and what can you say?” Dave Meltzer concluded. ” He had a colon blockage. This was probably the real reason why he was hospitalized. He needed surgery to undo the blockage that was the worst part of it. But because of that, he was having a lot of issues of his colon so that is kind of — well that is, not kind of — that is what I think started the whole thing. So that’s the situation. He’s in Atlanta and right now it’s wait and see.”

Keep crossing your fingers and saying your prayers for The Nature Boy because he still needs all the love and support he can get. They said on Raw he’s not “out of the woods” yet. But hopefully, with today’s modern medicine and the fact he’s Ric Flair, he’ll carry on to “woo” again another day.
