Brian Myers On Matt Cardona’s Indy Run: ‘It Should Be Studied’

Brian Myers has praised Matt Cardona’s return to WWE, telling Insight with Chris Van Vliet listeners that what his longtime friend and business partner accomplished has never been done before and should be studied by wrestlers of all ages.

Cardona, the former Zack Ryder, returned to WWE after building one of the biggest independent wrestling runs of the modern era. The two have been longtime tag team partners and business partners, co-hosting a podcast and running the Major collectibles company together.

“When the news broke, obviously, I was in the know of what was going on, but once it became a public thing, I put a tweet out that you go find it. It was just everything I wanted to say about this, that what he did has never been done before, and it should be studied and appreciated by workers of all ages, shapes, and sizes. It’s the real deal. It was a hell of an accomplishment.”

“We both have that thing where, with wrestling, you can’t always do what you want to do, but you can control the things you can control, and they matter. Looking like a star, spending money to make money, that kind of mentality really goes a long way. That’s what he focused on, and eventually paid off.”

Myers detailed the moment Cardona told him about the return.

“Not as heartwarming as it should have been, because of all the business things that were involved, that it’s his story to tell, it all got worked out, but yeah, at first we were like, is that it, like, you walk away from the pod, the toy company, how’s this gonna work, but you know, so it wasn’t as comforting as it should have been for both of us, but it all got situated.”

He added, “There he is breaking ground again in another way.”
