Charlotte Flair says she found out about her scheduled appearance at the White House Freedom 250 Fan Fest in June the same way fans did, telling TMZ Inside the Ring she had no idea the event was being held on the White House lawn until she saw it on Twitter.
“I saw online, I was like, ‘Oh, I guess I’m at a UFC fight.’ And then White House signing. I’m like, so are we going to the White House? I really did not know what we were doing until I saw it on Twitter.”
She had been planning her outfit for what she believed was a standard fan signing, and laughed when she realized the venue required a rethink.
“I had my spray-painted bedazzled outfit that I was gonna wear to the signing because it was just a signing, and then I was told White House signing. I was like, okay, I guess I won’t be wearing my queen outfit.”
Charlotte is scheduled to represent WWE at the Freedom 250 Fan Fest at the White House lawn in June. When the TMZ hosts pressed her for a reaction to the political context of the appearance, she said it was too fresh to fully address and promised to circle back.
Separately in the same interview, Charlotte revealed she has submitted herself for consideration for a Sports Illustrated cover. The hosts had brought up four recent SI covers featuring Tiffany Haddish, Hilary Duff, Alex Earl, and one other name, and asked Charlotte which she thought stood out. Her response came with a caveat.
“Myself, I have applied. I’m still waiting.”
She ultimately gave the nod to Hilary Duff, saying the story Duff is telling right now connected with her personally.
“There was something online where she looked in the mirror and was like, ‘Remember, I’m a bad b—h.’ She’s just exuding so much confidence. I’d have to say from a standpoint of being able to relate to Hilary, losing a little bit of confidence and coming back and being on top, I feel like she is a perfect cover model for what she represents. Being a badass and coming back and doing it all.”
Charlotte noted the parallel to her own experience returning from injury, adding that the concept of losing confidence and finding it again was something she identified with strongly.
