Charlotte Flair says teaming with Alexa Bliss has given her the best year of her career, and that she did not think it would work when Bliss first put it to her.
Flair credited Bliss directly on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story.
“It’s been one of the most incredible years in my career, hands down, and I’m so grateful for Lexi. I’ve got to give her a shout out,” Flair said. “She was like, put your big girl pants on. Remember who you are. Let’s do this.”
Her own reaction was the opposite.
“I’m like, I don’t know. We’re really good at fighting each other. This isn’t going to work,” she said. “And she’s like, yes ma’am.”
Flair said the hesitancy was not only hers.
“In fairness, I think creative was a little hesitant too, because I was so hated and she’s so liked,” she said. “Like, really, what was the outcome of it?”
What made it work, in her reading, was that neither of them was carrying the other.
“Because we’re such stars in our own right, it really was just, we’re not lifting each other. We’re brightening each other,” Flair said. “Sometimes in tags, it’s like, okay, this person’s here. No. This just made both of our stars shine brighter together, because of the opposites.”
Bliss has told the same story from her side. Speaking on Busted Open days earlier, she said she pitched the pairing to WWE herself, arguing that the two had only ever been positioned against each other and that the dynamic would be worth seeing. She said the response was that Flair had too much heat, and that she pushed back because she knew there was a way to do it and thought people needed to see that side of her.
The heat was real and it was recent. Flair had come back from a year out with a knee injury by winning the 2025 Royal Rumble and taking the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 41, and the crowd reaction to her across that run was hostile enough that WWE leaned into it. Bliss was coming off a return of her own after time away, and had been one of the most consistently cheered women on the roster for a decade. Putting them together meant putting the most booed woman on the brand next to one of the most popular, which is the objection Flair says creative raised.
The pairing came together in June 2025 and the title run followed quickly. Flair and Bliss were in the fatal four-way at Evolution where Judgment Day retained against them, the Kabuki Warriors and Sol Ruca and Zaria, and because neither of them was pinned in it, Flair got a shot at SummerSlam. They beat Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez there to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
They then made five successful defences across Raw and SmackDown and held the titles for 100 days, which put them within a few days of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler’s 2021 record. The sixth defence was the one they lost. Asuka and Kairi Sane took the belts in the main event of the November 10 Raw in Boston, with Jax and Lash Legend coming to ringside to pull Bliss away and leave Flair on her own. Sane finished it with the InSane Elbow.
It was Flair’s second reign as a tag team champion and Bliss’ fourth. They challenged for the titles again in a fatal four-way at WrestleMania 42 against Jax and Legend, Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, and the Bella Twins, and did not win.
Flair has more recently been in the interim WWE Women’s Championship picture, losing the five-way ladder match at SummerSlam that Chelsea Green won.
