With the Royal Rumble approaching, speculation is running rampant about potential surprise entrants. On TMZ Inside The Ring, David Otunga discussed the possibility of Chris Jericho returning to WWE for the event. Otunga expressed that if the former World Champion does appear, he should be booked strongly.
“If Jericho shows up at Royal Rumble, he has to win or somebody screws him out of the win, and it’s like, and that goes into the story. I love Chris Jericho, so I think that would be awesome.”
When asked about potential opponents for Jericho, Otunga suggested a feud with CM Punk would be compelling given their history and the rumors surrounding Punk’s time in AEW. “I mean, I don’t know when I was here, wild stories about Punk backstage at AEW, so that might be interesting. Like, there could be bad blood.”
Otunga also mentioned his personal desire to work with Punk again. Otunga was a member of the New Nexus, which Punk led in 2011. “It would be awesome. I would love to work with CM Punk before he retires. Again, like, we work together, but like, you know, it was the new Nexus, and I was, like, his protege, but like, it’d be cool… to work with him one time. He presently is the champ. So I would like to return and have a title shot.”
