Dean Malenko underwent brain surgery to fight the effects of Parkinson’s disease

Dean Malenko is remembered for being one of the best pure wrestlers that WCW had in the late 90s in the cruiserweight division. He’s also an unsung hero behind the scenes, whether for WWE or AEW as a producer.

The fight

Unfortunately, the former WCW Cruiserweight Champion has battled Parkinson’s disease for years.

While speaking on the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross, who returned to AEW television this past week on Dynamite to call the main event, noted that he ran into Malenko backstage at the show.

According to the WWE Hall of Famer, Malenko recently underwent brain surgery to stop from having tremors due to the disease.

Under the knife

“I saw Dean Malenko. Malenko’s had some health issues. I saw him there, and he’s had brain surgery. It stops the shakes from Parkinson’s, and he’s had the surgery. He’s such a sweetheart of a guy,” Ross stated.

Ross praised the former WWE/WCW/ECW star for being an MVP in AEW due to his coaching abilities in helping talent with their matches.
