Dominik Mysterio says the fans pushing for him to be moved up the card need to give it time, because he has not turned 30 yet. Mysterio was asked about it by Adrian Hernandez and answered with the length of his own career rather than the length of the wait.
“Be patient, young Padawans. I’m not even 30 yet,” Mysterio said. “Let your boy keep developing, we’re still growing. It is what it is.”
His framing of how long people have been watching him is the part worth pausing on.
“We’re on this rollercoaster of a ride together. Y’all been with me since I guess I was 8 years old, so 20-year vet,” he said. “Just keep tagging along. I don’t even know what’s next. We’re all enjoying this ride together.”
The maths is accurate on both counts. Mysterio turned 29 in April, and first appeared on WWE television in 2005 aged eight, in the custody angle involving his father and Eddie Guerrero. He did not make his in-ring debut until August 2020.
The six years since have produced more than the question implies. He is a two-time Intercontinental Champion and has held the NXT North American Championship, won tag team gold with Rey in the first father-and-son pairing to do it in WWE, and has held the AAA Mega Championship since beating El Hijo del Vikingo at Worlds Collide in Las Vegas on September 12, 2025. That reign made him the first wrestler to hold WWE and AAA championships at the same time, and it reaches a year this week.
The AAA run has produced a first of its own. Mysterio defended the Mega Championship against the original El Grande Americano on the May 11 Raw, which was the first time the title had ever been defended on WWE main roster television. AAA has been under the WWE umbrella since April 2025 and the belt had stayed on AAA programming until then.
What he has not had is a run at a world title in WWE, which is what the question was about. He entered this year’s King of the Ring and went out in a first-round four-way on the SmackDown taping in Bologna against Trick Williams, Bron Breakker and Damian Priest, with Oba Femi winning the tournament. The Raw world title picture has run through Roman Reigns and Penta since.
Rey debuted in Mexico at 14, spent most of a decade in AAA and ECW before WCW, and did not hold a world championship until 2006, twenty years in. Dominik is six years into an in-ring career that started at 23, with a championship in two promotions and a faction built partly around him.
The character is also a large part of why the question keeps getting asked. Mysterio spent years as one of the most booed wrestlers in the company by design, and the reaction has drifted since, with crowds cheering the entrance and chanting along with the act. That drift is normally the point at which WWE moves somebody, and it has not happened yet.
Mysterio is on the Raw brand and part of The Judgment Day, where Liv Morgan described him earlier this year as the crown jewel of the group. He was trained by Jay Lethal, Konnan, Lance Storm, his father and the Performance Center, and is the great-nephew of Rey Misterio Sr.
He defends the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano on night two of TripleMania 34 in Mexico City on Sunday, two days after his father meets Omos on night one in Nevada. If he holds it, the reign passes a year on the same weekend.
