For the first-time ever, a current WWE champion will face a current Impact Wrestling champion

Did we mention that 2018 is getting off to an amazing start? Wrestle Kingdom 12 was a fantastic show, the ALL IN show has a date, and Destiny Wrestling has announced a “first-ever” match between a current Impact Wrestling star and a current WWE star.

For the first time ever, a current champion from Impact Wrestling will face a current champion from WWE. Destiny Wrestling announced that new Impact Wrestling Champion Austin Aries (yes, you read that right and click here for more on Aries’ return) will face current WWE United Kingdom Pete Dunne.

The match will take place on Sunday, January 22nd at the Don Kolov Arena in Mississauga, Canada. This has the potential to be one of the best matches of 2018. This news comes on the heels of IPW: UK’s announcement that Dunne (WWE UK Champ) will be facing Will Ospreay (IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champ) on January 17th so Dunne, the WWE UK Champion, will be facing champions from Impact and NJPW within the span of a few days. Amazing stuff and it’s an amazing time to be a fan of independent wrestling.

If you are wondering why this is happening, it’s because Dunne is not under a full-time deal with WWE. WWE gets priority to book him but he is allowed to work for other promotions for the time being.
