We are sad to report that former WWE live events executive Ed Cohen passed away yesterday. The news broke via Gene Okerlund on Facebook.
Cohen was one of the key people that helped turned WWE into a powerhouse around the world as they transitioned from being a regional company into a worldwide entertainment company in the 1980’s. He was one of the early Titan Sports employees when he was hired in 1982.
Among many duties, Cohen helped secure venues for the early WrestleMania’s, including the 93,000-seat Pontiac Silverdome for WrestleMania III.
The last we heard about Cohen was he was dealing with health issues and was living in the Providence, RI area.
We send our condolences to Cohen’s friends and family.
Dave Meltzer took to Twitter to remember Cohen and noted that Cohen was one of his closest friends.
So sad to hear about the death of Ed Cohen, who booked arenas for WWF from going national until early 00s. Probably one of my closest friends in the company, had several battles with cancer from when he was a teenager.
