Joseph Hennig, who wrestled in WWE as Curtis Axel, has resolved his DWI case in Minnesota through a plea agreement.
Court records show that the agreement was submitted on August 24, as Axel pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of DWI and disorderly conduct. Three other charges, including refusing to submit to chemical testing and interfering with a peace officer, were dismissed.
As a result, Axel received a 90-day sentence, with 87 days stayed and three days credited for time served. He will not serve additional jail time as long as he meets the agreement’s terms.
The former WWE star will be on supervised probation for one year, which could become unsupervised after five months. During that time, he must remain law-abiding and avoid any alcohol- or drug-related offenses, as well as any assaultive, violent, disorderly or threatening behavior.
Axel has already completed a required comprehensive assessment and attended a Mothers Against Drunk Driving Impact Panel. He must also pay a $50 fine within 90 days. The case stems from a May 17 incident.
Police were called to a McDonald’s in Anoka County, Minnesota, after a vehicle backed into another vehicle in the drive-thru. Officers said Axel showed signs of intoxication and had an open bottle of vodka in his vehicle. Police said he was defiant, had to be removed from the vehicle, and swore at officers, restaurant staff, and the other driver. Police also alleged he used a slur.
Axel is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Curt “Mr. Perfect” Hennig. He is a former Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champion in WWE, where Paul Heyman also managed him. WWE released him in 2020, and he later worked briefly as a part-time producer for the company in 2022.
