Huge dream match likely for WWE SummerSlam

If the rumored matches that we have heard about for SummerSlam are not changed in the next couple of weeks, then we are looking at a really stacked card for that show. WWE wants to make this year’s show bigger than ever.

On Friday’s Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez indicated that WWE is planning on AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for SummerSlam. In response to an email from a listener asking about the possibility of that match happening, Alvarez said, “I think that is the match. I would say with some degree of confidence that you’re gonna see Styles and Nakamura against each other at SummerSlam. That was the whole idea behind the tease they did at the Money In The Bank show.”

That would be a dream match for most fans because most WWE fans have not seen that match. They have wrestled each other before in New Japan Pro Wrestling but I believe this would be their first match ever in the United States. The last time they wrestled each other was at Wrestle Kingdom 10 for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship shortly before they joined WWE. The match was regarded by many as one of the best matches of 2016 and some say it was the Match of the Year.

Styles joined WWE later that month and made his debut at the Royal Rumble and Nakamura would join the company under the NXT banner a few months later. They have been kept apart until recently.

There has been criticism from fans because of the feeling that Nakamura hasn’t been giving us 5-star matches since debuting on Smackdown. The thing is that the matches are laid out by the producers and he is not being asked to tear the house down every night. There is no doubt that both men will be looking to steal the show in Brooklyn and booking this match for SummerSlam make sense because they will be wrestling in front of a rowdy crowd.

Styles vs. Nakamura in WWE was inevitable especially after Nakamura was moved up to the main roster. This match would likely be the start of a multi-match program so hopefully, they can stretch things out and have the final match in their feud at WrestleMania.

We won’t spoil it here but there have been some major changes made to the planned main events for SummerSlam. If you want to know then click here. If you want to know where things are headed for the Raw Women’s Championship, then click here.
