When posed a hypothetical question on the “Something To Wrestle With” podcast about which non-McMahon promoter he would prefer to work for, John “Bradshaw” Layfield didn’t hesitate in choosing Eric Bischoff over AEW’s Tony Khan or former TNA owner Dixie Carter. Host Conrad Thompson forced the choice, excluding Vince McMahon under whom JBL spent the majority of his recognized career. “Oh man, I’m going with Eric. And there’s not a doubt, not a doubt in my mind,” JBL declared.
His reasoning centered on Bischoff’s documented success turning WCW from a money-losing company into a majorly profitable enterprise during the Monday Night Wars. “Eric turned the company around that people thought could not be turned around, and he did a great job with it,” JBL explained. “That has taken company losing a ton of money to making about $40 million a year, one of the biggest corporate turnarounds in history.” He felt this proven track record set Bischoff apart.
JBL did qualify his answer by admitting less familiarity with the business acumen of Khan and Carter compared to Bischoff, with whom he has had more personal interaction. “And I say that not knowing very much about Tony Khan or Dixie Carter as far as their business acumen, because I have not discussed business with them in that way that I have with Eric,” he stated, referencing only a brief, non-business lunch with Carter and a single meeting with Khan years before AEW’s launch. Still, based on historical results, Bischoff was his clear choice among the alternatives presented.
On a related note, Bischoff and Hogan reportedly have something big planned and the announcement could come as soon as tomorrow (Thursday).
