After signing a three-year deal with AEW in the fall of 2020, being pushed as one of their biggest stars with an undefeated streak and a lengthy reign as the TBS Champion, Jade Cargill is on her way out of AEW as she worked her last match with the promotion at Wednesday’s Rampage taping, where she had a rematch with Kris Statlander.
As previously reported, Cargill is finishing up with AEW and is expected to be WWE-bound. Some in AEW believe Cargill is heading to WWE for the NXT brand instead of being sent straight to the main roster. Once her AEW deal is up, which is believed to be this week, she’s free and clear to sign with any promotion she wants.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there was a chance she would’ve stayed with AEW the day of the show, but most people believed it was her last match.
Meltzer wrote, “Those in WWE believed she was coming and that it would be on the main roster rather than developmental, but I could see that going either way. Another person in WWE described it to us as that her name was being talked about a lot, but the deal was not completed at press time.”
If assigned to NXT, she will be one of the highest-paid wrestlers there.
One person told Meltzer that the situation came out of the blue, but they did expect her to be coming in.
