JBL Confirms Real Heat Between Two Former WWE Stars

WWE Hall of Famer JBL has confirmed a long-standing rumor about backstage animosity between two prominent female stars of the Ruthless Aggression era, Sharmell and Melina. While he couldn’t recall a specific physical fight, he verified that the tension between the two was legitimate.

The rumor has circulated for years among wrestling fans, with stories suggesting the two had to be separated backstage. During a recent Q&A session on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL was asked directly if he had ever broken up a fight between them.

“They had heat. They had real heat,” JBL stated. “But I don’t remember that. I don’t remember if they were ever separated. At one point, there was real heat, real heat between those two and several other things.”

During the mid-2000s, both women were featured heavily on WWE television. Sharmell was performing as Queen Sharmell alongside her husband, King Booker, while Melina was a member of the tag team MNM and was on her way to becoming a multi-time WWE Women’s and Divas Champion.

JBL clarified that while he was present for some tense moments, he does not recall having to break up a full-blown fight. “Yes, I don’t think I broke it up,” he said. “Now I may have separated them. I do remember times where there was some confrontations, and I was there, so I could have been the one that stepped in between. That part certainly could be true. Maybe it’s not a fight, maybe it’s more of a confrontation.”

Sharmell was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022 and makes sporadic appearances alongside Booker T. Melina has also made occasional appearances for WWE in recent years, including participating in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble match.
