John Layfield is fully on board with CM Punk’s return to the top of WWE, and he has a clear preference for how the new champion should be presented: as a villain.
Speaking on Something to Wrestle, JBL made it known that while he appreciates Punk’s babyface work, he would much rather see him embrace his heel side.
“I prefer Punk as a heel. I think he’s a great heel. I think he’s a good babyface too, but I think he’s a great heel,” JBL said.
In typical JBL fashion, the former WWE Champion added a blunt disclaimer about his general feelings toward good guys.
“I like Punk, and I like him as a babyface. I just don’t like babyfaces. I hate them all. I really do,” JBL said. “I think he’d be a great heel, and I love him as a heel.”
JBL was also blown away by Punk’s physical condition upon his return, which came after months away following WrestleMania.
“CM Punk’s in great shape, huh? Unbelievable, man, he looks fantastic,” JBL said.
